The internet, the machine, the One

Yep, I love the internet. I spend almost every single day on it searching for information, entertainment and company. So for me, it’s a big thing and I imagine it’s the same for you too.

It's easy to understand the internet as in what it means to you personaly. But have you ever changed your perspective and saw it on a more global scale? It makes you appreciate it on a different level!

Well, Kevin Kelly gives you some stats to help you realize the massiveness of this machine:
100 billion clicks a day
55 trillion links between pages
1 billion PC chips on the internet
2 million emails per second
1 million IM messages per second
8 terrabytes per second traffic
255 exabytes magnetic storage
1 million voice queries per hour
consumes 5% of global electricity

So that’s what it has become after 5000 days. Now imagine what it will become the next 5000 days… That’s the question Kelly tries to answer in a talk he gave on a TED conference in december.
