Planet Earth

Welcome visitor to my blog. Today's my second blogpost and we start with some good news! Finally some good news about our dear planet!

Al Gore and the think-alikes...

After All Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth' I couldn't catch sleep at night thinking about how bad we are screwing up our planet (ok, I'm getting a bit dramatic now)!

The only thing you hear these days is scientists talking about the disasterous effects of climate change, news anchors continuously announcing "the worst storm ever recorded in human history"; or, "highest temperature ever recorded". I mean, com'on, how many records are there to break?!

And some more...

And it's not only on the news. Every day you can watch 'so called' specialist debating Global Warming. You can't walk through the streets without being harressed by some 'greeny' giving you brochures about the 'happy state' our world is in. It's getting so fashionable to be green (I don't want to yank here but it isn't exactly a beautiful color)! Even the business world is giving in into this 'green mentality'.

When the car manufacturers start talking green, you know something is wrong. I mean, what about their old fashioned macho values like 'power is everything'. So too much green makes you look green and I'm tired of this pessimistic world view!

Finally relieve...

So now you can imagine my relieve when seeing a movie who's message is 'earth isn't doing so bad after all'. Finally a moment to take a break and be happy with ourselves. So let's dig a bit deeper into this movie.

First I ask you to leave your pessimistic thoughts for a moment and be open for new input. For the skeptics, several renown scientist explained what is going on. So the message makes sense and no, it isn't sponsored by the oil industry.

The movie...

Like every other movie about our 'good old' earth these days, it starts discussing the disastrous effects us humans have on our environment (nothing new here!). It explains the 'traditional' issues like melting icecaps, animal extinction, chemicals polluting oceans and land, greenhouse gases... Basically all the stuff we're supposed to feel bad about! It continues discussing our involvement in all this, again, nothing new under the sun, we're the bad guys! And finishes with the prospects of the future. And again, same scenario, it doesn't look good (you start to wander who writes the scripts, same guy?)!

The good news...

I hear you saying "But Toon (that's me), you said you had some good news!". Well, good news always comes last. So here it is: it is not really a problem that we screw up our environment... it's not that bad that we're mass murdering numerous species... it's not that bad that we're losing the poles... it's not that bad that we're... (ok, Toon, shut up! They get the picture!) It's not that bad because in the end, it's the earth that's going to survive us!

The bright side is we're probably going to kill most species (including us) if we continue living this 'abundant'... But 'mother nature' is stronger and will survive. And new species will ultimately rise and the world will be green again!

In your face!

So in your face mister Al Gore, Greenpeace and all environmental fundamentalists! You're all just being pessimistic. Please, lighten up a little and look from the bright side of life!

Finally, I can get some sleep...

The movie I recommend if you want to get the positive picture: The eleventh hour.
